Staff Software Engineer (IR Data Products)

Location: Hybrid in Denver, Colorado, with on-site work required three days per week. The role requires access to export-controlled information; candidates must meet applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements. Muon is currently registered and able to hire in the listed U.S. states.

Salary: $216,000–$239,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own architecture for multi-mission, multi-customer infrared data systems spanning ingestion, preprocessing, orchestration, storage, cataloging, delivery, and platform infrastructure.
• Lead multi-quarter designs and implementations from problem framing and technical documentation through rollout, adoption, and operational hand-off.
• Drive low-latency processing through event-driven microservices, AWS infrastructure optimization, benchmarking, instrumentation, caching, and algorithmic improvements.
• Set direction for large-scale geospatial data storage, cataloging, serving, tile stores, STAC catalogs, versioning, and reprocessing.
• Build MLOps foundations for derived infrared products, including model packaging, experiment tracking, GPU-backed training and inference, A/B evaluation, and reproducibility.
• Set engineering standards and provide technical leadership across Software, Product, Program Management, Business Development, and adjacent platform teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree, 8+ years with a master’s degree, or 5+ years with a PhD.
• Demonstrated technical leadership on production data platforms at scale and experience leading multi-quarter initiatives across services or teams.
• Experience designing and operating AWS data pipelines with a modern workflow orchestrator such as Flyte, Airflow, Prefect, or Argo.
• Experience with latency optimization, observability, SLOs, on-call operations, safe deployments, immutability, and reproducibility.
• Strong technical writing and cross-functional communication skills.
• Must meet applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information.

Nice to have

• Event-driven or microservices architecture experience, including queues, routing, backpressure, retries, dead-letter queues, and idempotency.
• Terraform and infrastructure-as-code ownership of AWS resources, including IAM boundaries.
• Geospatial or remote-sensing experience with NetCDF, Zarr, HDF, STAC, or tile stores.
• Hands-on MLOps and GPU acceleration experience using tools such as MLflow, Weights & Biases, JAX, CuPy, or CUDA.
• Satellite ground-segment experience or experience serving imagery and tiled geospatial data to external customers.
