Staff Software Engineer (Data Platform)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; on-site

Salary: USD 170,000–190,000 annual base compensation, plus performance-based bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and scale high-throughput data ingestion pipelines for enterprise performance monitoring and analytics.
• Build real-time streaming and enrichment pipelines using Kafka and Numaflow.
• Own storage architecture across ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, and Elasticsearch, including schema design, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
• Improve platform performance, scalability, reliability, capacity, and operational efficiency.
• Investigate bottlenecks across streaming and storage layers and establish load-testing and capacity-planning practices.
• Collaborate with platform, data, engineering, and QA teams on architecture, testing, security, and operational documentation.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including building and scaling data pipelines or observability platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar streaming platforms and Numaflow or comparable dataflow frameworks.
• Expertise with ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, Elasticsearch, or similar time-series, columnar, and search-oriented data stores.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, such as Go, Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript.
• Experience with Kubernetes, container security, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, build systems, and infrastructure as code.
• Working knowledge of security scanning, OWASP Top 10, CWE, secure coding, and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-tenant, high-cardinality time-series platforms and observability systems.
• Knowledge of capacity planning, load testing, performance benchmarking, API security testing, or web application security.
• Security certifications such as CEH or Security+.
