Senior Mission Software Engineer (AI)

TL;DR

Senior Mission Software Engineer (AI): Building and deploying AI applications and robust backend systems for US government customers with an accent on end-to-end delivery from prototype to production. Location: Hybrid. Must be based in the US; significant on-site time required with 25-50% travel or relocation to Washington DC or St. Louis.

What you will do

• Embed with government customers to scope problems and develop working software.
• Own the full delivery lifecycle from initial prototype to stable production at customer sites.
• Build robust backend systems and data integrations connecting customer environments to the Scale platform.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to incorporate field signals into the product roadmap.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for customer stakeholders to maximize mission impact.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in customer-facing or government roles.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containers, Linux, and networking.
• Active TS/SCI clearance is required.
• Ability to work independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLMs or generative AI models.
• Knowledge of Node, React, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
• Background in data engineering including ETL pipelines, data modeling, and governance.
