TL;DR
Robotics Software Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles): Building production online calibration and state-estimation software for autonomous vehicles with an accent on asynchronous sensor data, hardware-accelerated platforms, and fleet-level observability. Focus on adapting estimation algorithms, optimising constrained runtime systems, and designing simulation, replay, bench, and on-vehicle testing for nominal and failure scenarios.

Location: Hybrid role based in London, UK or Sunnyvale, US

Salary: $276,100–$293,750 per year

Company

hirify.global is building an AI platform for autonomous driving that enables vehicles to learn from real-world experience and adapt across complex urban environments.

What you will do

  • Extend the online calibration node and deliver reliable production software for the on-vehicle runtime.
  • Adapt and integrate calibration and state-estimation algorithms for continuous or on-demand onboard execution.
  • Handle asynchronous sensor data, accelerator-produced features, and noisy, time-varying calibration parameters.
  • Strengthen validation, gating, persistence, logging, runtime interfaces, and fleet-level observability.
  • Profile and optimise compute, memory, storage, and latency while preserving correctness and debuggability.
  • Build simulation, replay, bench, and on-vehicle tests covering nominal and failure scenarios.

Requirements

  • Practical expertise in sensor calibration, state estimation, or a related robotics domain, including cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, vehicle parameters, or multi-sensor systems.
  • Strong understanding of Kalman-family filters, Bayesian estimation, smoothing, robust estimation, or factor-graph optimisation.
  • Strong modern C++ skills and proficiency in Python for prototyping, analysis, and test tooling.
  • Experience productionising algorithm-heavy robotics software for vehicles, robots, drones, aerospace systems, or comparable edge platforms.
  • Experience with asynchronous, high-throughput sensor data and hardware-accelerated pipelines, including optimisation of constrained compute and memory systems.
  • Strong software architecture, API design, testing, debugging, performance profiling, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with visual odometry, SLAM, localisation, sensor fusion, ego-motion estimation, or geometric computer vision.
  • Experience with GPU, DSP, NPU, or other hardware-accelerated robotics workloads.
  • Production software experience at scale in robotics or autonomous-systems companies.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, edge-state management, rollback, automotive safety, or fault-injection testing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid working with in-person collaboration in offices and workshops, remote work, and core hours.
  • Relocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable.
  • Meaningful equity and market-benchmarked salaries.
  • Learning and development budgets for training, conferences, and professional growth.
  • Health, dental, retirement or pension benefits, enhanced parental leave, therapy access, wellbeing partnerships, and team socials.

Hiring process

  • Initial recruiter screen followed by a competency interview.
  • Deep-dive technical interviews covering C++/Python programming, sensor calibration, robotics system design, and technical leadership.
  • Final interview focused on values and team alignment.
