Flight Dynamics Software Engineer III (Spaceflight)

Base pay for Washington applicants: $164,652.00–$230,512.80 per year. Other site ranges may differ.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, verify, and deploy flight dynamics microservices for orbit maintenance, collision avoidance, engine commodity bookkeeping, and flight dynamics product generation.
• Translate astrodynamics algorithms into production services across numerical methods and software engineering.
• Collaborate with flight vehicle systems, mission control infrastructure, operations, systems engineering, and customer teams on requirements, architecture, design, and safety-critical software standards.
• Build rapid prototypes, quantify technical risks, and support frequent updates for pre-flight testing, mission validation, training, spacecraft integration, and flight operations.
• Integrate components, run unit- and system-level tests, validate with software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulators, and release certified code.
• Produce architecture documentation, verification plans, user manuals, training materials, and other software engineering documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience across the full lifecycle, including design, requirements, implementation, verification, integration, qualification, and release.
• Experience with build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.
• Ability to develop in multiple programming languages and select the appropriate language for the problem domain.
• Familiarity with Linux and basic Unix system administration.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

• Ground software development experience for spaceflight operations and complex applications in Python.
• Experience with REST, Kafka, gRPC, web or database development, infrastructure as code, and cloud technologies.
• Knowledge of astrodynamics, including orbit determination, maneuver planning, and collision avoidance.
• Experience with telemetry processing, fault monitoring, mission planning, scheduling, ephemeris generation, conjunction data processing, or spacecraft subsystem software.
