TL;DR
Media Firmware Development Engineer (SSD): Developing and optimizing low-level firmware for Solidigm solid-state drives with an accent on embedded C/C++, SSD architecture, NAND flash management, and storage interfaces. Focus on debugging complex firmware issues, designing media-management algorithms, and improving performance, endurance, reliability, and quality of service across the product lifecycle.

Location: Rancho Cordova, California, United States; fully onsite with office attendance five days per week

Salary: USD 128,960–201,500 per year

What you will do

  • Develop, review, document, and maintain product firmware source code in C and C++.
  • Analyze customer and internal specifications and translate product requirements into development and validation plans.
  • Develop low-level firmware, system architectures, device architectures, and operating-system components with hardware and ASIC design teams.
  • Perform unit- and system-level testing, failure analysis, debugging, and issue resolution on pre-production and production hardware.
  • Work across firmware disciplines and SSD architecture, including NVMe, PCIe, NAND, SATA, and SAS interfaces.
  • Coordinate engineering priorities and milestones while participating in Agile and Kanban development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience developing, validating, or optimizing embedded firmware for SSDs or other NAND flash-based storage products.
  • Experience with SSD architecture, NVMe, PCIe, NAND interfaces, error correction, and flash translation layer design.
  • Strong C/C++ development experience in embedded environments, with Git, Python, and C/C++ debugging tools.
  • Experience debugging and root-causing complex firmware issues through failure triage, log and telemetry analysis, and cross-functional issue resolution.
  • Ability to work fully onsite in Rancho Cordova, California, five days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NAND media management, including data placement, wear leveling, garbage collection, defect management, and endurance optimization.
  • Experience designing firmware algorithms for latency, throughput, performance consistency, endurance, reliability, or quality of service.
  • Experience analyzing drive-level performance and telemetry data and qualifying new NAND generations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across multiple sites and engineering teams.
