Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY, with at least 3 days per week in the NYC office at Industrious at Union Square.

What you will do

• Lead delivery across multiple Product Engineering pods and ensure predictable, high-quality releases.
• Stand up and scale engineering pods around iterative, agentic, loop-based development practices.
• Partner with Product Management and business stakeholders to turn roadmap priorities into executable work.
• Maintain hands-on involvement in technical design, coding, deployments, architecture, testing, and platform tools.
• Coach engineering managers and senior engineers while driving hiring, performance management, and career growth.
• Report delivery health, velocity, risks, and escalations, and expand adoption of AI-assisted SDLC tooling.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years leading engineering managers or senior technical leads.
• Experience building or restructuring pod-based or iterative engineering teams and shipping complex customer-facing software at scale.
• Strong technical judgment across modern architecture, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, web applications, and integrations.
• Proficiency in .NET Core, C#, TypeScript, and/or Python, with experience using REST APIs and SQL.
• Experience with cloud-based development; Azure is preferred.

• Experience scaling pod-based engineering structures from the ground up.
