Engineering Manager (Runtime Platform)

Location: London, United Kingdom or Sunnyvale, California, USA. Hybrid working model with regular in-person collaboration in offices, workshops, and vehicle labs.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, retain, and grow a high-performing Runtime Platform engineering team.
• Own hiring, onboarding, resourcing, roadmap planning, delivery, quality, and operational reliability.
• Set technical direction for application frameworks, middleware, IPC, latency, profiling, real-time scheduling, and observability.
• Guide incremental support for new vehicle platforms while minimizing performance degradation.
• Strengthen continuous integration, hardware-in-the-loop testing, benchmarking, and internal quality gates.
• Collaborate with Vehicle Software, model development, hardware, and OEM programme teams while resolving risks and dependencies.

Requirements

• Strong experience leading, hiring, coaching, and developing high-performing software or systems teams.
• Experience owning a team roadmap and delivering through others, including prioritization, resourcing, quality, and operational reliability.
• Hands-on experience architecting and delivering embedded software shipped in physical products.
• Strong understanding of high-performance, low-latency embedded software in C++ and embedded Linux.
• Knowledge of profiling, benchmarking, latency, throughput, memory-bandwidth analysis, and real-time scheduling.
• Understanding of middleware for high-throughput, real-time, or robotics systems, with the ability to influence multiple stakeholder teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in automotive, robotics, or another safety-relevant real-time domain.
• Experience with QNX, microkernel architectures, or other real-time operating systems.
• Familiarity with pprof/gperftools, perf, Nsight, NVLumo, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Experience with NVIDIA Orin, NVIDIA Thor, or Qualcomm compute platforms.
