Engineering Technical Lead Manager (AI)

Location: Mountain View, United States; onsite role

Salary: $160,000–$275,000 for early career, $175,000–$400,000 for mid career, or $250,000–$600,000 for senior career, plus equity

What you will do

• Manage, mentor, and grow a team of kernel engineers and software developers.
• Set technical direction and contribute code as an active hands-on engineering leader.
• Design and optimize compute kernels that interface directly with specialized AI hardware.
• Partner with ML Research to improve output and diagnostic tools.
• Collaborate with Hardware Engineering on next-generation AI architectures and software integration.

Requirements

• Must work onsite in Mountain View, United States.
• At least 2 years of engineering team management experience and 7 years working directly within engineering teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Experience optimizing software for specialized hardware using parallelism, SIMD, C, assembly-level optimization, or GPU/CUDA programming.
• Programming experience in at least one of assembly, C++, C, Zig, or Rust.
• Ability to manage ambiguity and escalations, align stakeholders, and communicate complex technical trade-offs.

Nice to have

• Experience implementing kernels for ML models such as Transformers.
• Experience with distributed parallelism, including AllReduce, AllToAll, data parallelism, or tensor parallelism.
• Familiarity with compiler internals and implementation.
