Senior Engineer IV - Tech. Lead Complexity Optimization (Automotive)

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States; hybrid schedule with 4 days per week in-office and 1 day remote. Candidates must be able to work in or relocate to Portland. Relocation assistance is not available.

What you will do

• Lead enterprise-wide complexity optimization across the product and part portfolio.
• Identify, develop, evaluate, and prioritize technical optimization opportunities and financially sound proposals.
• Guide engineering teams in simplifying products, systems, standards, and manufacturing processes while preserving customer value and vehicle capability.
• Facilitate technical workshops, challenge assumptions, and mature proposals toward decision readiness.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Supply Chain, Quality, Service, Sales, Marketing, and Product Strategy.
• Present recommendations, tradeoffs, risks, and investment cases to engineering and executive leadership while mentoring teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, systems, industrial engineering, or a related technical field.
• 12+ years of engineering experience in an industrial, automotive, or commercial vehicle OEM environment.
• Broad system-level understanding of vehicle architectures, systems, and product lifecycles.
• Experience influencing technical direction across multiple programs or platforms and working in highly matrixed organizations with indirect authority.
• Strong understanding of product development processes, engineering governance, and cross-functional interfaces.
• Strong facilitation, communication, technical evaluation, and senior leadership presentation skills; an attached resume is required.

Nice to have

• Experience in complexity management, value engineering, modular architectures, standardization, or design standards development.
• Exposure to manufacturing, supply chain, or aftermarket considerations.
• Master’s degree in engineering or engineering management.
• Experience designing metal and plastic components and assemblies.
• Experience with enterprise transformation, cross-product initiatives, customer applications, and business value analysis.
