Facilities Maintenance Technician (Laboratories)

Location: Orange, California, USA; 100% onsite Monday–Friday. Occasional travel to other service centers and after-hours or weekend emergency response may be required.

Salary: $25–$45 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and geographic location.

What you will do

• Perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs across HVAC, controls, filtration, plumbing, electrical and lighting systems, water systems, roofing, and building infrastructure.
• Plan and track preventive maintenance activities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and prevent recurring issues.
• Support facility repairs, installations, renovations, and capital projects through execution, quote coordination, scheduling, and contractor follow-through.
• Coordinate vendors, inspections, service agreements, and specialized contractors while monitoring work quality through verified completion.
• Coordinate maintenance, construction, and utility interruptions with laboratory leaders to protect production, contamination control, sample integrity, safety, and client commitments.
• Maintain facility records and respond to urgent issues, including emergencies outside normal business hours and support for other locations.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of hands-on facilities maintenance, building operations, mechanical systems, or related technical experience; laboratory, manufacturing, or regulated production experience is strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade training is preferred.
• Hands-on knowledge of commercial HVAC, controls, filtration, plumbing, electrical and lighting, water systems, general building maintenance, and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
• Ability to diagnose problems, perform repairs independently, identify when licensed or specialized contractor support is required, and manage multiple issues through completion.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and facility safety requirements; valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, conduct rooftop and site inspections, and work around machinery, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC equipment, and building infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Experience with laboratory utility systems such as ultrapure water, air, or vacuum systems.
• Relevant trade or technical certifications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Project or comparable project management software.
