Controls Engineer Intern (Summer 2027) (Industrial Automation)

Location: Onsite in Shawano, Wisconsin, United States. The internship starts in May 2027 and runs during the summer.

What you will do

• Support the Automation & Controls team with technical and project work across plant operations.
• Update and organize PLC, HMI, industrial network, electrical, and equipment documentation.
• Collect and analyze production-system data and create reports, dashboards, and project updates.
• Support plant demand management, safety-controls improvements, and modernization of legacy equipment.
• Assist with controls standardization, OT asset inventory, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and field verification.
• Research automation solutions, support project planning and implementation, and shadow Controls and Automation professionals.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a four-year Electrical Engineering, Controls Systems Engineering, or related degree program at least at the sophomore level.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work successfully in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to meet U.S. export-control requirements, including qualifying as a U.S. Person or obtaining an applicable export license.

Nice to have

• Training in PLC programming languages.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft SQL, or Wonderware InTouch.
