Senior Manager: Food Systems

Location: Fully remote or based at AFT headquarters in Washington, DC, with regular travel to Washington, DC. Occasional travel of up to 10% may be required.

Salary: $125,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead a multi-year initiative and build a broad, bipartisan coalition supporting local and regional food economies.
• Develop shared priorities, facilitate stakeholder convenings, and maintain relationships across food, agriculture, farming, nutrition, and community organizations.
• Monitor federal legislative and regulatory developments and support engagement with congressional offices and federal agencies.
• Lead geographic mapping and analysis of impact data, including investments, farmers served, and jobs created.
• Manage communications consultants, develop messages and educational materials, and maintain a story bank focused on farmers, families, and rural communities.
• Manage the initiative’s workplan, budget, timeline, milestones, reporting, and project support staff.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in food and agriculture policy, preferably with knowledge of federal food and agriculture programs.
• Proven experience building and managing bipartisan coalitions or multi-stakeholder partnerships.
• Working knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process; policy or government relations experience is preferred.
• Strong communications and media relations skills, including earned media, storytelling, and message development.
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to manage concurrent workstreams, build consensus, and collaborate across teams.
