Data Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Wakefield, Massachusetts, with one day per week in the office and additional in-person training and workshops as needed. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Salary: $106,000–$113,000 per year, calibrated to geographic location and local market conditions.

What you will do

• Design, develop, operate, and evolve end-to-end data pipelines, integrations, data models, and data-platform capabilities.
• Build scalable ETL/ELT workflows that ingest, transform, validate, and deliver data from APIs, databases, files, and other systems.
• Own production data systems, including monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, availability, and continuous improvement.
• Define architecture and implementation plans, modernize legacy data processes, and move them toward secure, automated, cloud-based solutions.
• Improve data quality, testing, documentation, lineage, observability, security, governance, access control, and operational readiness.
• Collaborate with analysts, software engineers, product owners, security, infrastructure, and other stakeholders while mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering, data-platform engineering, software engineering, or a related field.
• Advanced SQL skills and strong programming experience with Python or another language used for data processing and automation.
• Strong knowledge of data modeling, relational databases, analytical warehouses, data lakes, dimensional modeling, and ETL/ELT.
• Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform, Git, pull requests, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, testing, logging, and alerting.
• Experience working with sensitive, confidential, regulated, or financial data and applying appropriate security controls.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with one office day per week and authorization to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with Snowflake, streaming or event-driven systems, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
• Experience leading data-platform migrations or replacing legacy ETL processes.
• Experience with data contracts, metadata management, data catalogs, lineage platforms, machine-learning, AI, semantic-layer, or feature-engineering use cases.
• Cloud or data-engineering certifications and experience participating in technical interviews.
