Device Engineer II (Embedded Linux/C++)

Location: Tysons, Virginia; office attendance required 4 days a week

Base salary: $88,300–$122,500 USD per year

What you will do

• Implement, test, debug, document, and release firmware for video cameras on real hardware.
• Develop embedded Linux applications and platform frameworks in C and C++.
• Own features and modules from design review through code review, unit testing, on-target testing, and release.
• Perform system-level debugging, performance profiling, and hardware-versus-software fault isolation.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, product, and quality engineers on device design, manufacturing, cloud-connected features, and product validation.
• Build internal tools and use AI-assisted development tools to automate engineering workflows.

Requirements

• Strong C++ proficiency for embedded systems and sound software architecture and design principles.
• Solid Linux systems programming experience with processes, threads, IPC, sockets, concurrency, and target-device debugging using tools such as gdb, strace, or memory analyzers.
• 2+ years of professional embedded software development on Linux platforms.
• Experience with cross-compilation and build frameworks such as Yocto, Buildroot, OpenWRT, or Android.
• Knowledge of the SDLC, Git, collaborative code review, and Python or Bash scripting for development and testing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with video, audio, image pipelines, camera sensors, ISPs, hardware encoders, codecs, media frameworks, or streaming protocols.
• Networking and on-device debugging experience with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, cellular, or other IoT protocols.
• Experience with board support packages, Linux kernels and drivers, bootloaders, RTOS firmware, SoC SDKs, or hardware bring-up using UART, SPI, and I2C.
• Knowledge of TLS, secure boot, key storage, AI/ML inference, or automated testing and CI for embedded targets.
