News Producer

Location: Denver, Colorado, at 100 E. Speer Blvd (Tribune-KDVR/KWGN)

Salary: $26.00–$31.00 per hour, based on experience

What you will do

• Produce creative, compelling, and memorable local newscasts.
• Write news stories, headlines, teases, and conversational copy.
• Research current events, community issues, breaking news, and story ideas using wire services, network feeds, websites, and social media.
• Publish and update stories on station websites and social media, coordinating with web staff during breaking news.
• Collaborate with anchors, directors, news operations staff, and web staff on story presentation, graphics, and newscast production.
• Edit video and audio, build graphics, and adjust quickly to last-minute changes during the on-air process.

Requirements

• 4+ years of news producing experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Clear, concise, conversational writing and excellent communication skills.
• Strong news judgment, journalistic ethics, research skills, initiative, and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of newsroom software, web posting software, social media engagement, video and audio editing, and graphics production.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines, work independently under pressure, handle last-minute changes, and make quick, accurate on-air decisions.

Nice to have

• Experience training and mentoring less experienced staff.
• Experience generating promotable story ideas and contributing in editorial meetings.
