Vehicle Dynamics Controls Engineer (EV)

Salary: $225,000–$275,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do

• Develop and calibrate steering, stability, traction, and related vehicle dynamics control algorithms.
• Define handling metrics, objective maneuvers, test cases, and pass/fail evaluations.
• Build, integrate, and validate estimation and control algorithms through simulation, in-vehicle testing, and dyno testing.
• Develop high-fidelity multi-body plant models and closed-loop virtual simulation environments using tools such as Simscape, MSC Adams, CarSim, or TruckSim.
• Analyze vehicle and dyno logs, troubleshoot software issues, and resolve system-level integration problems across software, firmware, and vehicle domains.
• Collaborate with controls, embedded software, and test and validation teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Controls, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink, including model-based design, Stateflow, and automation scripting.
• Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, including understeer, oversteer, and tire dynamics.
• Direct experience developing and calibrating Traction Control, VDC/ESP, ABS, AWD, Torque Vectoring, or Electronic Limited Slip Differential systems.
• Experience with state estimation, sensor fusion, real-time embedded systems, automotive communication networks, and tools such as Vector CANalyzer or CANape.
• Familiarity with embedded automotive software workflows, Git, Jenkins, adaptive or robust control, and system identification.
