Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle, or New York, United States, with some in-office and some remote work.

Salary: $137,100–$201,600, $167,800–$246,800, or $203,500–$299,300 USD annually, depending on work location and job-related factors.

What you will do

• Build and continuously improve consumer agents, starting with the Ask grocery assistant.
• Develop evaluation harnesses and optimization loops to identify failure modes and improve prompts, tools, skills, and context.
• Run experiments involving open-weight model fine-tuning and deploy small language models where they improve quality, latency, or cost.
• Take agentic opportunities for Merchants and Dashers from early exploration through production launch.
• Apply agentic memory, product representations, and post-trained models to production agents.
• Partner with engineering, product, and business leaders to shape an ML strategy for grocery and retail delivery.

Requirements

• 3+ years of industry machine learning experience.
• Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM-based agents, including tool use, context management, prompting, guardrails, evaluations, and data-driven improvement.
• Experience with post-training or fine-tuning open-weight models, including methods such as supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization, or reinforcement learning.
• Strong foundations in NLP and machine learning, with proficiency in Python and PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• M.S. or PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement from San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle, or New York.
