Staff Software Engineer, User Targeting

Location: Hybrid in New York City, United States

Salary: $184,000–$314,079 annual base pay for candidates based in the United States; expected OTE of $204,000–$348,000 including bonus or commission.

What you will do

• Architect and build large-scale real-time systems and services for segmentation, targeting, and complex data workloads.
• Extend ClickHouse pipelines to support new filters and user attributes.
• Own customer-facing products from problem definition through launch, adoption, and continuous improvement.
• Improve the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of core segmentation systems and backend services.
• Lead architectural direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate with engineering, product, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain operational procedures including alerts, on-call rotations, and troubleshooting playbooks.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full-stack or backend work on high-scale, high-throughput systems.
• Experience delivering customer-facing products on high-scale data systems from problem definition through launch and adoption.
• Experience building streaming systems, real-time pipelines, or large-scale data platforms.
• Strong software design, data structures, algorithms, architectural leadership, and technical communication skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Sidekiq, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with MongoDB, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or other data lake technologies.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, API design, monitoring, and operational best practices.
