Staff Software Engineer (AI/Trust & Safety)

Salary: $255,000–$285,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable, reliable systems supporting Trust & Safety capabilities.
• Lead complex technical initiatives from concept through delivery and address evolving threats and user needs.
• Set technical direction and establish best practices for architecture, performance, and system design.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and engineering teams on end-to-end safety solutions.
• Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• Use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or Copilot to improve development and system design while ensuring responsible, ethical, and unbiased outcomes.

Requirements

• Typically 8+ years of experience, or equivalent demonstrated skills.
• Deep software engineering expertise, proficiency in at least one modern programming language, and experience with system design at scale.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives and delivering high-quality systems.
• Ability to influence technical direction and align cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong collaboration, communication, ownership, and accountability.
• Highly proficient use of AI-powered tools for engineering productivity, system design, and decision-making, with the ability to evaluate outputs and mitigate risks.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed systems and high-availability architectures.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern deployment pipelines.
• Background in Trust & Safety, machine learning systems, or recommendation systems at scale.
• Experience applying AI/ML techniques to safety or detection problems.
