Energy Engineer

Location: USA-Remote

Base salary: $70,000–$100,000 per year

What you will do

• Evaluate energy savings and demand reduction opportunities, including operational changes and capital measures.
• Analyze 15-minute and hourly utility and sub-meter data to characterize loads, identify demand charge drivers, and detect anomalies.
• Execute monitoring-based commissioning workflows, establish baselines, monitor performance, and verify savings persistence.
• Support campus metering systems for electricity, gas, steam, and chilled water, including specifications, single-line diagrams, commissioning, and EMIS/DAS integration.
• Configure and manage fault detection and diagnostics rule sets, prioritize alerts, and estimate fault impacts for operations and maintenance decisions.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations that turn engineering analytics into actionable guidance for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.
• At least 3 years of experience in energy engineering, building performance analysis, or a related discipline.
• Experience with energy and data analysis, including data-driven modeling, interval meter analysis, and energy efficiency opportunities for HVAC, heating and cooling plants, and distributed energy resources.
• Working knowledge of measurement and verification methods, BAS/BMS platforms, and advanced data analysis or visualization tools such as Python or R.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Travel is required.

Nice to have

• CEM, CMVP, or CCP certification.
• Customer-facing or consulting experience.
• Hands-on troubleshooting, retro-commissioning, or monitoring-based commissioning experience with HVAC systems and central heating and cooling plants.
• Experience using AI tools in an energy engineering context.
