Sr. Consultant, Backend Developer - Java/Microservices/System Design

Location: Toronto, ON; hybrid arrangement with 1–3 days per week on-site at Toronto-81 Bay

What you will do

• Lead the functional design and development of application systems across technologies and platforms.
• Translate business requirements into application, infrastructure, interface, and integration designs.
• Coordinate complex solution design activities and lead multiple technology solutions aligned with the bank’s roadmap.
• Lead design reviews and collaborate with project teams, senior management, and technical stakeholders.
• Develop precise processing logic and support operational efficiency through cost-effective solutions.
• Mentor junior designers and developers through knowledge sharing and problem solving.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience designing, developing, implementing, and supporting applications.
• Hands-on expertise in Java, microservices architecture, and system design.
• Experience with Spring Boot, RDBMS/SQL, J2EE, SOAP, REST, gRPC, Quarkus, JSON, Docker or Podman, Maven or Gradle, Postman, JUnit, Jenkins, Git, OpenAPI/Swagger, and OAuth2/JWT.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a technical discipline.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and hold a valid work or study permit where applicable.
• Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, mentoring, judgment, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience developing automation with AI technologies, including Python, LLM integration, vector databases, and RAG.
