  • Develop robust, maintainable, tested, versioned, and documented software for tokamak plasma modelling.
  • Develop performance-portable particle simulations using the NESO-Particles library for exascale computing.
  • Deploy and test computational models on advanced systems such as the SUNRISE supercomputer.
  • Work with plasma-physics and other domain specialists on research and development projects.
  • Communicate results through technical reports, documentation, journal publications, and organisational workshops; mentor junior colleagues or doctoral students when required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience with at least one relevant programming language: C++, Fortran, Python, or Julia.
  • Knowledge of high-performance computing, including parallel and GPU programming.
  • Familiarity with numerical methods for physical-system simulation, such as Particle-In-Cell or Direct Simulation Monte Carlo.
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering practices and the ability to write efficient, comprehensible, and maintainable code independently.
  • Ability to communicate technical work clearly, collaborate across disciplines, manage deadlines, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.

Nice to have

  • Basic knowledge of plasma physics or related disciplines.
  • Experience deploying computational software on state-of-the-art supercomputing systems.

Culture & Benefits

  • Flexible working arrangements where compatible with the role, alongside regular onsite work.
  • Up to 7% corporate performance bonus.
  • Final salary defined-benefit pension scheme with an equivalent employer contribution of 21.5%.
  • 25 days of annual leave, 2.5 privilege days, and 8 bank holidays.
  • Three site-closure days over the Christmas break and family-friendly leave provisions.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and fair representation in STEM.
