Senior Quantum Physicist (Quantum Computing)

Location: Based at the Oxford, UK office with the option to work a few days a week remotely. Travel up to 5%.

What you will do

• Prototype and characterise coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits using laser and microwave fields.
• Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to improve the fidelity of quantum gates, ion transport, and complete circuits.
• Validate emerging trap technologies, including integrated electronics and photonics for large-scale architectures.
• Analyse experimental data and debug complex hardware/software interactions to improve qubit reliability.
• Design, code, execute, document, and communicate experiments and novel quantum control schemes.

Requirements

• PhD in physics or a related discipline with a strong foundation in atomic or qubit-related physics.
• Expertise in experimental AMO physics or quantum computing.
• Background in quantum control and experience with calibration, benchmarking, or coherent control of qubits.
• Experience with spectroscopy, coherent control of multi-level systems, control hardware characterisation, gate-fidelity benchmarking, or running quantum circuits on hardware.
• Strong programming and data-analysis skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving technical team.

• Experience with trapped ions.
