AI Architect

Location: Remote, based in the United States

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Define enterprise reference architectures and standards for LLM applications, RAG systems, classical machine learning, and AI-enabled services.
• Establish reusable patterns for embeddings, vector search, prompt orchestration, safety layers, evaluation, lineage, observability, and cost governance.
• Own platform and tooling decisions across Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure ML, Databricks, and data orchestration platforms.
• Embed PHI/PII safeguards, HIPAA-aligned controls, encryption, RBAC, de-identification, auditability, and Responsible AI requirements into delivery processes.
• Lead architecture reviews, manage exceptions and migration plans, and advise teams on grounding, tool calling, evaluation, hallucination, safety, drift, latency, and cost.
• Collaborate with engineering, data science, platform, security, compliance, and product teams while mentoring teams and publishing technical standards and architecture decision records.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, health informatics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software or solution architecture experience, including 5+ years with AI/ML systems and 2+ years leading enterprise AI architecture or platform initiatives.
• Deep Azure experience, including Azure AI Foundry/Studio, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure ML, Key Vault, networking, IAM, encryption, logging, and monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with OpenAI or Anthropic models, prompt and tool-calling patterns, grounding/RAG, model evaluation, Responsible AI, and red-teaming.
• Experience with PHI/PII protection, HIPAA-aligned design, Databricks, Spark, Airflow or Azure Data Factory/Synapse, MLOps, SQL Server, and enterprise .NET integration.
• Strong communication and influence skills, with experience leading architecture reviews and driving cross-functional technical decisions.

Nice to have

• Healthcare domain knowledge, including FHIR/HL7, EHR or claims data, clinical NLP, and revenue cycle management.
• Experience with GPU/CUDA optimization, quantization, distillation, caching, token budgeting, and multi-tenant cost control.
• Security or compliance certifications such as HCISPP or CISSP.
• Experience creating reusable AI accelerators, libraries, or platform capabilities adopted by multiple teams.
