TL;DR
Lecturer in History (Early Modern History) (History/distance learning): Developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate history curriculum, teaching materials, assessments, and research with an accent on early modern Britain, Ireland, and Europe. Focus on creating engaging distance-learning content, conducting internationally excellent research, and contributing to collaborative academic administration.

Location: Hybrid role contractually aligned to the Milton Keynes office, with attendance required approximately once per month.

Salary: £47,389–£56,535 pro rata per year.

What you will do

  • Develop, plan, and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate History curriculum.
  • Prepare engaging printed and online distance-learning materials, assessments, and examinations.
  • Support module presentation, examination boards, Associate Lecturer monitoring, student forums, and occasional evening or weekend learning events.
  • Conduct and publish high-quality early modern history research supporting future research assessment exercises.
  • Contribute to collaborative research, public engagement, funding activity, academic administration, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree or equivalent in History or a related subject; a PhD is preferred.
  • Research and teaching experience in early modern Britain, Ireland, or Europe, covering approximately 1500–1800.
  • Ability or willingness to create online and printed distance-learning materials and support online and face-to-face teaching events.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to engage students at different levels.
  • Developing research and publication profile of internationally excellent quality, appropriate to career stage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently while managing diverse academic commitments.

Nice to have

  • Research expertise in Tudor England.
  • Experience producing online or distance-learning materials.
  • Experience or interest in interdisciplinary teaching.
  • Further or higher education teaching qualification or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
  • Research funding and public engagement experience, including work with museums, public history organisations, or communities.
