Return ‘Em Right Outreach Coordinator (Project Specialist I) (Fisheries Outreach)

Location: Galveston, Texas, United States; coverage includes Texas and Louisiana coastal areas. Up to 35% or more travel may be required, including outdoor and vessel-based work, plus occasional evenings and weekends.

Salary: $65,000–$70,000 annually; compensation is commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate Return ‘Em Right outreach and education programs across Texas and Louisiana.
• Develop workshops, presentations, trainings, educational resources, and public events focused on barotrauma mitigation and fish descending devices.
• Build relationships with recreational fishing communities, coastal stakeholders, industry partners, Sea Grant programs, and fisheries organizations.
• Represent the program at fishing expos, tournaments, conferences, meetings, podcasts, and other public engagement opportunities.
• Create social media, newsletter, video, photography, and digital communications content.
• Support project budgeting, reporting, evaluation, documentation, and progress tracking.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Strong saltwater recreational fishing experience and knowledge of sustainable fishing practices, reef fish, barotrauma, and best release practices.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and public-speaking skills.
• Ability to organize outreach programming across Texas and Louisiana coastal communities and build lasting partnerships.
• Willingness to obtain saltwater fishing licenses in Texas and Louisiana.
• Ability to work outdoors and aboard vessels, handle field conditions, and carry outreach materials or gear up to 40 pounds with assistance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in fisheries, marine science, natural resource management, or a related field.
• Experience coordinating outreach, education, stakeholder engagement, workshops, trainings, or public events for recreational fishing communities.
• Experience with Gulf fisheries management, fisheries agencies, nonprofit organizations, Sea Grant programs, or fishing industry partners.
