Field Service Engineer (Microscopy)

Location: Dortmund, Germany; remote work covering the Cologne/Ruhrgebiet region and adjacent regions in Germany, with frequent travel to customer sites and occasional overnight stays

What you will do

• Provide on-site support for confocal and widefield microscope systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, error analysis, performance verification, and installation of new systems and upgrades.
• Train users and research teams and share product-specific technical knowledge.
• Prepare service reports, technical documentation, and case updates.
• Collaborate with regional and global Service teams and work with Sales and Application teams on demonstrations and trade shows.

Requirements

• Degree or completed vocational training in life sciences, medical technology, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a comparable technical discipline.
• Several years of experience in field service or technical customer support for optical, analytical, medical, or comparable electromechanical systems.
• Business-fluent German and English are required for customer communication, technical documentation, and international collaboration.
• Ability to travel frequently within the assigned Cologne/Ruhrgebiet territory and other locations in Germany, including occasional overnight stays.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work safely at customer sites and handle service tools, spare parts, and system components.

Nice to have

• Experience with laser-scanning confocal microscopy, widefield microscopy, optics, lasers, or image acquisition systems.
• Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex microscopy or laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience with customer training, technical knowledge sharing, or mentoring colleagues in field service.
