Senior Hydrogeologist/Groundwater Modeling Team Leader (Groundwater Modeling)

Location: Phoenix, Arizona, with a hybrid arrangement and flexibility to work remotely

What you will do

• Lead groundwater flow and solute transport modeling projects, including conceptual site model development, model design, construction, calibration, application, sensitivity analysis, and uncertainty analysis.
• Manage groundwater resources and environmental consulting work involving data acquisition, analysis, permitting support, technical reports, cost estimates, proposals, budgets, and invoicing.
• Serve as project manager, senior hydrogeologist, and primary modeling liaison for clients, stakeholders, and state and federal regulators.
• Support Arizona water resources and environmental permitting programs, including AWS, Well Spacing, USF, APP, and AZPDES applications.
• Develop hydrogeologic evaluations for managed aquifer recharge sites and aquifer storage and recovery wells, including groundwater mounding and contaminant mobilization analyses.
• Manage daily modeling team operations and mentor, supervise, and train junior groundwater modelers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Science; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in groundwater modeling, hydrogeology, water resources, environmental remediation, or related engineering sectors.
• At least 2 years of senior leadership experience and project management experience are required.
• Proficiency with MODFLOW, MODPATH, MT3D, Groundwater Vistas, ArcGIS Pro, and post-processing tools including Fortran, Python, Grapher, and Surfer.
• Extensive groundwater modeling experience and familiarity with groundwater challenges and regulations in Arizona and the arid Southwestern United States.
• Strong technical writing, proposal writing, cost estimating, communication, information technology, and data management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with parameter estimation tools such as PEST.
• Experience interpreting geologic, hydrogeologic, and analytical data for conceptual and predictive models.
• Familiarity with APP, AZPDES, and USF modeling requirements.
• Experience supporting mining permitting and compliance.
• Advanced scripting and large model dataset management experience.
