Groundwater Modeler / Hydrogeologist

Location: Phoenix, Arizona, United States; hybrid work with flexibility to work from the Phoenix office or remotely

What you will do

• Build, calibrate, and apply numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport models using MODFLOW, MODPATH, MT3D, and related tools.
• Perform sensitivity, uncertainty, and predictive analyses for water resource and remediation projects.
• Compile and manage geologic, hydrogeologic, water quality, spatial, and subsurface datasets to support Conceptual Site Model development.
• Support Arizona regulatory permitting, including ADEQ APP and AZPDES applications and ADWR Assured and Adequate Water Supply applications.
• Support hydrogeologic characterization for managed aquifer recharge sites and aquifer storage and recovery wells, including groundwater mounding projections.
• Prepare technical reports, figures, appendices, proposals, cost estimates, and project deliverables while supporting project managers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
• 3 years of relevant experience with a master's degree or 6 years with a bachelor's degree in groundwater modeling, hydrogeology, water resources, or environmental consulting.
• Hands-on proficiency with numerical groundwater flow and transport modeling software, including MODFLOW, MODPATH, and MT3D.
• Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and post-processing or data tools such as Fortran, Python, Grapher, or Surfer.
• Experience with groundwater modeling and Arizona or arid Southwestern United States groundwater regulations and challenges.
• Strong technical writing, communication, organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with parameter estimation tools such as PEST.
• Advanced data processing with Python, R, FORTRAN, scripting, or dataset management tools.
• Experience developing Conceptual Site Models from complex geologic and hydrogeologic data.
• Experience supporting field characterization programs, including well installation, logging, or pumping tests.
