Principal System Integration and Test Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; on-site

Base salary: $200,000–$230,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Own whole-system integration across optics, laser delivery, vacuum interfaces, RF controls, timing, and instrument software.
• Define hardware-readiness checks and integration, alignment, and handoff criteria with Quantum Engineers and Systems Engineering.
• Establish repeatable integration sequences, alignment methods, diagnostics, and recovery procedures for first-of-a-kind systems.
• Perform and guide optical alignment, laser-delivery checks, controls checkout, and safety checks before atom-based verification.
• Lead cross-subsystem troubleshooting and support hardware corrections during Quantum Engineer testing.
• Mentor integration engineers and technicians, define qualification paths, and advise on staffing and shared-instrument scheduling.

Requirements

• PhD in physics, applied physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline, or comparable professional experience.
• 10+ years of experience in experimental AMO physics, quantum hardware, or precision laser-system integration.
• 3+ years of technical leadership on multidisciplinary teams, including integration readiness, complex fault isolation, and laboratory execution.
• Strong knowledge of neutral-atom quantum computing, including atom trapping, optical addressing, coherent control, and readout.
• Hands-on experience with optical alignment, laser stability diagnostics, vacuum interfaces, and synchronized RF and control systems.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
