Staff ATE Mechanical Engineer (Clean Energy)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; includes approximately 10–20% travel to domestic and international contract manufacturing sites.

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Develop mechanical systems and components across the full product development lifecycle.
• Design reliable, manufacturable parts and assemblies using high-volume manufacturing processes.
• Evaluate concepts through calculations, physical testing, and multiphysics simulations.
• Create drawings, specifications, bills of materials, cost and mass roll-ups, and engineering releases.
• Define manufacturing processes, inspection methods, work instructions, and preventive maintenance documentation.
• Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams to support prototypes, production, and station construction.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with 3D modeling tools such as Onshape, NX, or SolidWorks.
• Detailed knowledge of 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, statics, load paths, FEA, root cause analysis, and DFMEA.
• Experience with PCBA fixtures, bed-of-nails fixtures, fine-pitch assemblies, strain-gauge measurements, and mechanical control outlines.
• Knowledge of electromechanical troubleshooting, pneumatic cylinders, thermal management, test fixtures, jigs, and high-cycle mechanical components.
• Prototyping experience with 3D printing, machining, sheet metal, laser cutting, milling, and general machine-shop tools.
• Experience supporting onsite builds at contract manufacturing sites, with approximately 10–20% travel required as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience reviewing Design for Manufacturing reports, First Article Inspection, and Part Production Approval Process documentation.
• Experience generating process FMEA documentation and managing component suppliers.
• Experience driving projects from design through deployment with engineers, vendors, technicians, and other cross-functional partners.
