TL;DR
Senior Manufacturing Engineer - First Shift (Fusion Energy/Manufacturing): Designing, qualifying, and optimizing manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment for high-precision fusion hardware with an accent on production quality, safety, yield, cycle time, and cost efficiency. Focus on troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical assembly issues, implementing root cause corrective actions, and coordinating shift operations across engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site, first shift

Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

  • Develop, implement, and qualify manufacturing processes for new products against quality, cost, and production-rate targets.
  • Lead the design and procurement of production tools, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support for first-shift production and own magnet manufacturing operations for the shift.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and automated assembly issues.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, manufacturing documentation, and operation sequencing.
  • Lead root cause corrective actions and process optimization initiatives to improve safety, yield, cycle time, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing or production engineering experience, including 7+ years supporting high-precision or complex hardware assembly.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electro-mechanical equipment and tooling on a production floor.
  • Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action frameworks and continuous improvement tools such as Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, CAD modeling with SolidWorks or NX, and technical drawing interpretation.
  • Ability to work on-site in Devens, lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, perform extended standing and other physical activities, and work occasional nights, weekends, on-call shifts, or travel.

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-field superconducting magnets, vacuum systems, or cryogenic hardware.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP and MES software such as SAP, Tulip, or Solumina.
  • Experience with SPC, DOE methodologies, or dedicated shift schedules.
