TL;DR
Lead, Mission Software Engineer (Defense): Building integrated mission software connecting weapons, launchers, command-and-control systems, sensors, mission planning tools, and external platforms with an accent on system architecture, tactical interfaces, and mission-critical integration. Focus on designing distributed systems, developing production code, and leading software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, ground, and flight testing.

Location: Torrance, California, United States. The role may require access to classified information and restricted U.S. Government sites, systems, or information.

What you will do

  • Lead the architecture, development, integration, and deployment of mission software across weapons, launchers, command-and-control systems, sensors, and mission planning tools.
  • Own major software capabilities from requirements and architecture through implementation, integration, testing, and operational deployment.
  • Design APIs, data models, interfaces, and communications across tactical networks, aircraft, launchers, mission computers, fire-control systems, sensors, and government C2 systems.
  • Build tools, simulators, and test infrastructure for software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, and system-level testing.
  • Lead debugging and root-cause analysis across application software, embedded systems, networks, avionics, sensors, and hardware.
  • Mentor engineers and collaborate with flight software, avionics, guidance and navigation, vehicle engineering, test, integration, government, and platform teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience and experience owning complex software systems or major capabilities.
  • Strong development experience with C++, Rust, Python, Go, C, or similar languages.
  • Experience with software architecture, APIs, networking, data serialization, concurrency, distributed systems, hardware interfaces, and complex integrated-system debugging.
  • Experience with Git-based production development, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance and satisfy applicable U.S. Government eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with mission planning, C2, fire control, targeting, autonomy, sensor integration, weapon-system software, or military mission systems.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, UAI, CAN, Ethernet, TCP/UDP, protobuf, or tactical data links.
  • Experience with geospatial software, coordinate systems, targeting, route planning, trajectory generation, or mission-data processing.
  • Experience with embedded, real-time, Linux-based, SIL, HIL, vehicle-in-the-loop, or flight-test software.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
