Director, Corporate Strategy (Genomics)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid with 2–3 in-office days per week. Must reside in the San Diego area and be able to commute to the corporate offices. Relocation to the San Diego area is available and should be completed within 12 months or a mutually agreed period.

Base salary: $187,400–$281,000 per year, plus eligibility for variable cash programs and, where applicable, equity.

What you will do

• Lead cross-enterprise strategy engagements from problem framing through recommendation and executive decision.
• Define strategic questions, hypotheses, decision criteria, analytical approaches, and integrated workplans.
• Direct market, customer, competitive, scientific, technology, operational, and financial analysis while maintaining the integrity of the fact base.
• Develop and quantify strategic alternatives involving growth, investment, risk, capabilities, market entry, business models, and technology disruption.
• Advise senior leaders and the ELT through sponsor sessions, decision-ready materials, presentations, and Board-related strategy work.
• Lead cross-functional project teams, coach contributors, and support follow-through by clarifying owners, milestones, assumptions, and value measures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, life sciences, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 15–18 years of relevant experience, including 4+ years at a top-tier global strategy consulting firm or comparable organization.
• Experience advising C-suite or equivalent enterprise decision-makers for at least 3 years and independently leading complex strategy engagements end to end.
• At least 2 years leading and coaching multi-person strategy project teams; direct-report management is not required.
• Advanced structured problem-solving, quantitative analysis, financial modeling, scenario development, executive communication, and matrixed influence skills.
• Demonstrated responsible use of AI-enabled approaches for strategy development, including validation of outputs and protection of confidential information.

Nice to have

• MBA, master’s degree, or another relevant advanced degree.
• Experience in genomics, life sciences, diagnostics, healthcare, or another technology-intensive industry.
• Experience combining external advisory and in-house corporate strategy perspectives.
• Experience preparing ELT or Board-level strategy materials and evaluating partnerships, acquisitions, or other inorganic options.
