Senior/Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California

Base salary: $180,000–$215,000 for Senior level or $190,000–$250,000 for Staff level, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and operate backend services and APIs for the clinical platform.
• Develop reliable and secure services and data pipelines for patient imaging data and clinical analysis results.
• Translate product and clinical requirements into technical designs while balancing correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Own reliability and performance through monitoring, alerting, production troubleshooting, and on-call participation.
• Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, developer tooling, and secure access-control patterns.
• Mentor engineers and, at Staff level, lead technical initiatives spanning multiple services and teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience for Senior level, or 10+ years with cross-team technical leadership for Staff level.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Strong backend programming skills in Python or Java, including object-oriented programming, data modeling, concurrency, and API design.
• Hands-on AWS experience, including Lambda, ECS, EKS, Fargate, S3, SQS, and VPC, plus SQL and NoSQL data stores.
• Experience with distributed or microservices architectures, automated testing, code review, debugging, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and observability.
• Working knowledge of OWASP security practices and the ability to communicate technical work clearly to non-engineering stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with DICOM, HL7, FHIR, PHI, or medical imaging systems.
• Production experience with Django and the Django ORM, including migrations and query performance tuning.
• Experience in FDA-regulated, safety-critical, or other controlled development environments.
• Staff-level experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams.
