Director, Integrated Target Design (ICF)

Location: Denver, Colorado, United States. Full-time, onsite role based at the headquarters.

What you will do

• Build, grow, and lead the Integrated Target Design group, including recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development.
• Translate program priorities into work scopes, schedules, task assignments, and resource plans.
• Guide advanced simulations and experiments covering implosion physics, laser-plasma instabilities, symmetry control, and energy coupling.
• Coordinate with Theory and Computation, Diagnostic Physics, laser engineering, target fabrication, chamber engineering, and other functions.
• Review technical outputs, establish documentation and quality-control practices, and maintain high-quality execution.
• Collaborate with national laboratories, universities, external vendors, and testing facilities.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a related technical field, with knowledge of inertial confinement fusion.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop scientific or technical teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communicating complex arguments across a matrixed organization.
• Ability to manage execution in a fast-moving, interdisciplinary environment with evolving priorities.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, lawfully admitted refugee, or person granted asylum.

Nice to have

• Deep expertise in inertial confinement fusion, capsule or hohlraum design, laser-plasma instabilities, hydrodynamics, or related areas.
• Experience with radiation-hydrodynamic modeling, physics validation, and experimental platforms at high-energy-density facilities such as NIF, OMEGA, or Z.
• Experience in multi-institutional experimental collaborations.
• Familiarity with target fabrication, DT filling, cryogenic handling, target injection, or delivery.
