Senior Director of Research & Innovation

Location: On-site in Waltham, Massachusetts, United States; travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

Annual salary: USD 163,500–286,000, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead a high-performing team of Directors and Group Leaders across multiple scientific disciplines.
• Scout and evaluate new business ideas, lead ideation and decision-making, and implement prioritized ideas as projects.
• Establish new business lines, products, and capabilities through research, proof-of-concept studies, and process development.
• Set scientific strategy and monitor delivery against short- and long-term business objectives.
• Build relationships with stakeholders, senior leaders, business partners, and cross-functional teams.
• Drive innovation and revenue-generating opportunities while fostering creativity, initiative, and informed risk-taking.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in cell biology, biochemistry, biology, life sciences, or another relevant scientific field.
• 15+ years of experience in an industrial environment, including a track record in a similar leadership role.
• Recognized scientific leadership demonstrated through publications, international conference participation, journal editorial board membership, or comparable achievements.
• Experience setting strategy, monitoring delivery, and leading global teams.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate complex scientific problems into end-to-end solutions for scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
• Ability to work on-site in Waltham, Massachusetts, United States and travel up to 20%.

Nice to have

• Additional advanced degree such as a Ph.D. in life sciences, MD, or MBA.
