TL;DR
Computational Research Intern (Fusion): Developing predictive plasma simulations for fusion machines and test beds with an accent on first-principles modeling, experimental validation, and FRC device analysis. Focus on studying FRC formation, translation, merging, or compression, analyzing simulation results, and presenting research findings to the broader team.

Location: On-site in Everett, Washington, United States; full-time for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027.

Compensation: $57 per hour

hirify.global is a fusion power company developing the Polaris prototype and pursuing the construction of the Orion fusion power plant to provide clean, reliable electricity.

What you will do

  • Use hirify.global’s computational tools to study an aspect of fusion machine or test-bed behavior.
  • Investigate FRC formation, translation, merging, or compression through plasma simulations.
  • Work with a mentor and research team to design a simulation study.
  • Analyze results and develop a research report.
  • Present findings to the broader research team.

Requirements

  • Ability to work full time onsite in Everett, WA for at least 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027.
  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant plasma research experience and experience with plasma simulation codes such as PIC, Vlasov, or MHD.
  • Ability to complete the PhD and begin full-time employment no later than May 2028.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Research experience in a team environment and scripting or analysis skills in Python, C++, or MATLAB.
