Staff Developer (React/TypeScript)

Location: Canada; remote work across Canada

Annual salary: $158,400–$247,500; most new hires join at $188,100.

What you will do

• Shape the architecture for migrating Online Booking and My Account from a legacy frontend to React, including routing, data, state, and shared legacy/new code.
• Write production code with React, TypeScript, and Rails while establishing patterns for the development team.
• Build accessible patient experiences with keyboard support, focus management, screen reader compatibility, and automated testing.
• Partner with Design on the component library and collaborate with teams whose pages are part of the booking flow.
• Mentor developers through pairing, code reviews, and technical guidance.
• Lead gradual releases using feature flags, production monitoring, and AI-assisted workflows where appropriate.

Requirements

• Around 10 or more years of professional software development experience at staff or technical lead level.
• Deep hands-on expertise with React and TypeScript, including client-side routing, browser history, and Redux Toolkit or similar state management.
• Full-stack experience with strong frontend expertise and staged migration of a live legacy frontend to React.
• Practical experience applying WCAG 2.1 AA, including keyboard behavior, focus management, and ARIA.
• Experience designing APIs, using feature flags, managing gradual rollouts, monitoring production, and writing technical design documents.
• Collaborative technical leadership style with experience mentoring developers and making decisions under uncertainty.

Nice to have

• Ruby on Rails experience or willingness to learn it on the job.
• Hands-on screen reader testing with JAWS or NVDA.
• Experience building embeddable widgets or web components for external websites.
