Software Systems Engineer Intern (Defense Technology)

Location: Fully onsite in Arlington, Virginia, United States

Salary: $28–$34 per hour

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and analyze software for Department of Defense air and surface warfare platforms.
• Develop automated software analysis solutions for Aegis Combat System test events.
• Model and code testing algorithms using C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java.
• Integrate software components and applications into complex tactical environments.
• Execute software development lifecycle activities from requirements analysis through design, testing, and implementation.
• Collaborate with software engineers, system architects, integration engineers, subject matter experts, and customers.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Ability to develop software in at least two of Java, JavaScript, C++, or Python.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle and ability to document requirements and specifications.
• Familiarity with SQL, relational databases, distributed systems, software design patterns, and Agile development.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
• Must work fully onsite from Arlington, Virginia.

Nice to have

• System integration and testing experience for complex software applications.
• Hands-on Java/J2EE and object-oriented programming experience.
• Experience with Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, Nexus, Git, and database design.
• Experience with distributed systems, algorithms, and software design patterns.
