First In-House Engineer (AI/Robotics)

Location: On-site in Culver City, California; candidates must be based in the Los Angeles area or willing to relocate and authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Salary: $180,000–$360,000 base annually, depending on experience, plus equity.

What you will do

• Write production and prototype code across the stack, build MVPs, and validate ideas with real data or users.
• Develop internal tools, lightweight automation, and integrations with devices, sensors, and third-party services.
• Turn open technical questions involving AI models, hardware, and open-source components into working evidence through end-to-end experiments.
• Work hands-on with humanoid robots, connected devices, audio pipelines, sensors, edge deployments, and on-device inference.
• Evaluate build-versus-buy-versus-integrate decisions and communicate feasibility, effort, risk, and technical trade-offs.
• Support leadership with technical narratives for product decisions, decks, and funding rounds.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a record of shipping products used by real people.
• Strong hands-on engineering skills across the stack, with deep expertise in at least one area.
• Practical AI/ML experience with LLMs, speech, or perception systems, including awareness of their limitations.
• Experience taking products from zero to a working first version in ambiguous environments.
• Strong communication, autonomy, ownership, testing discipline, and ability to validate AI and hardware features.
• Based in the Los Angeles area or willing to relocate to the United States, able to work on-site in Culver City, and authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, humanoids, embodied AI, IoT, or connected devices.
• Experience with edge deployment, audio pipelines, sensors, or on-device inference.
• Background working with distributed engineering teams or at an early-stage startup.
• Technical education in computer science or engineering, or equivalent self-taught depth.
• Strong product instincts and interest in growing into technical leadership.
