Medical Assistant - General Surgery - Boston

Location: Tufts Medical Center, Boston, United States; onsite role with possible coverage at satellite locations

Salary: $22.00–$25.15 per hour, based on full-time equivalent

What you will do

• Manage outpatient patient flow, room assignments, delays, provider availability, and daily clinic operations.
• Prepare patients, exam rooms, and medical records while collecting histories, medication information, pain levels, and vital signs.
• Assist providers and nursing staff with examinations, treatments, procedures, specimen collection, immunizations, and point-of-care testing.
• Arrange diagnostic testing and surgical procedures, process referrals and prior authorizations, and support billing documentation.
• Maintain supplies, instruments, diagnostic equipment, quality controls, sterilization, safety procedures, and quality improvement records.
• Train and orient medical assistants, precept students, support staff interviews, and act as a first-level resource for clinical and operational issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of Medical Assistant experience; five years is preferred.
• Medical Assistant National Certification Attestation from AAMA, AMCA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA.
• Basic Life Support certification, or ability to obtain it within three months.
• English reading, writing, and spelling skills for accurate documentation and communication.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, universal precautions, patient handling, electronic medical records, and EPIC.

• Bilingual communication skills.
• Experience with electronic medical record systems and previous supervisory experience.
