Non-Metallic Materials Engineer

Location: Newark, Delaware, United States; approximately 35% travel to plant sites, fabrication shops, and face-to-face meetings

Annual pay range: $110,544.00–$172,725.00 USD, with an 11% annual bonus target

What you will do

• Provide consulting and technical support in non-metallic materials engineering for chemical businesses, plant operations, capital projects, and research and development.
• Lead materials engineering throughout project execution, including materials selection, equipment design, calculations, fabrication, repairs, and replacement.
• Support mechanical integrity quality assurance, equipment inspections, condition assessments, failure analysis, and technical training.
• Work with vendors and cross-functional teams on equipment design, fabrication, repairs, specifications, and time-sensitive engineering solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, inspection reports, equipment drawings, design sketches, and project specifications.
• Participate in relevant technical organizations, including ASME and the Materials Technology Institute.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a background in non-metallic materials, or a degree in Polymer, Chemical, or Materials Engineering with strong engineering mechanics experience.
• 5–10 years of experience in chemical processing or related industries, including fabrication phases involving non-metallic materials of construction.
• Experience with the design, fabrication, and project process flow for new non-metallic equipment and the repair or replacement of existing equipment.
• Experience reviewing and creating equipment drawings, design sketches, equipment specifications, project specifications, and internal standards aligned with industry standards.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, use sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and drive projects forward safely and efficiently.
• Ability to travel approximately 35% to plant sites and fabrication shops.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Mechanical, Polymer, Chemical, or Materials Engineering.
• Experience working safely on chemical process sites and applying technical knowledge to equipment or process troubleshooting.
• Root Cause Failure Analysis experience involving non-metallic materials.
• Technical leadership of complex engineering projects from inception through completion.
• Knowledge of ASME Section X, RTP-1, ASTM F1545, and calculations for flange design, strength, and sealing.
