TL;DR
IT Security Engineer Intern (Cybersecurity): Assessing and securing software solutions for mission-critical defense systems with an accent on DevSecOps pipelines, vulnerability scanning, and secure software integration. Focus on analyzing SAST and DAST results, hardening systems against federal standards, and collaborating with developers and engineering teams to remediate security issues.

Location: Fully onsite in San Diego, California, United States. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. Travel of up to 10% may be required.

Salary: $28–$34 per hour.

What you will do

  • Assess and report on software solutions across the Integrated Mission Systems business area.
  • Provide security feedback to developers and help deliver high-quality, secure software integrated with other system components.
  • Help deploy software through secure DevSecOps pipelines.
  • Gather user requirements, define system functionality, and develop test plans for integrated applications and software written in Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Collaborate with software, systems, and integration engineers and subject matter experts to deliver robust technical solutions.

Requirements

  • Completed coursework toward a bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, cybersecurity, mathematics, aeronautical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Coursework or experience in application development with Java or C++ in a Linux or Windows environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
  • Familiarity with version control, computer networking, networking protocols, Kubernetes, Docker, and secure software development practices.
  • Current college juniors or rising seniors are preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience with JavaScript, Java, Python, or C++.
  • Experience integrating SAST and DAST tools such as SonarQube and OWASP ZAP into CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience with image scanning tools such as Xray, Trivy, or Grype.
  • Experience reviewing, triaging, and prioritizing vulnerability scan results and providing remediation guidance.
  • Familiarity with DISA STIGs and operating system and application hardening.
