TL;DR
Network Maintenance & Construction Technician I (Telecommunications): Installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing telecommunications infrastructure for video, voice, data, fiber optic, HFC, RF, microwave, and power systems with an accent on outside plant construction, cable splicing, network troubleshooting, and field operations. Focus on operating heavy equipment, supporting submarine cable systems, performing OTDR testing, maintaining AC/DC power supplies, and restoring service in remote Alaskan conditions.

Location: Onsite in Ketchikan, Alaska, United States; remote work is not eligible. The role requires travel throughout Alaska, work in remote arctic conditions, and access to regulated facilities.

What you will do

  • Install, service, test, and repair video, voice, data, wireless, fiber optic, HFC, RF, microwave, and related telecommunications systems.
  • Execute aerial and underground construction, excavation, cable installation, relocation, restoration, and outside plant maintenance.
  • Splice copper, fiber optic, and coaxial cables and perform cable fault location, signal testing, balancing, sweeping, and alignment.
  • Support submarine cable operations, including OTDR testing, splice-loss assessment, optical safety procedures, and vessel-based operations observation when required.
  • Maintain AC/DC power supplies, batteries, generators, headend systems, network equipment, and field infrastructure.
  • Respond to outages and trouble tickets, document work, communicate with dispatch and senior technicians, and mentor less experienced technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least four years of technical telecommunications or related experience, including experience with heavy equipment and excavation, cable splicing, power supply maintenance, fiber optic transport equipment, and aerial or underground construction.
  • NAZ power safety certification or the ability to obtain it within one year of hire.
  • Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, insurance, and ability to complete defensive driving training; a commercial driver's license may be required within six months.
  • Current passport or ability to obtain one upon hiring, plus compliant identification and required background or regulatory checks.
  • Ability to work at heights, in trenches, around electrical conductors and gas lines, in adverse weather, and handle equipment loads up to 70 pounds occasionally.

Nice to have

  • Associate degree in electronics, telecommunications trade school, or equivalent training.
  • Telecommunications industry certifications and related technical experience.
