TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Fusion Energy): Designing, analyzing, building, and operating mechanical systems for excimer-laser-based inertial fusion energy technology with an accent on laser amplifiers, pressure vessels, vacuum systems, and hardware integration. Focus on creating production-ready designs, coordinating interdisciplinary builds, conducting qualification tests, and scaling prototype systems toward a power-producing fusion reactor.

Location: On-site at the headquarters in Denver, Colorado, United States

Company

hirify.global develops inertial fusion energy technology using advanced excimer-laser architecture to support clean power generation and global decarbonization.

What you will do

  • Create 3D models, detailed part drawings, assemblies, P&IDs, and interface control documents.
  • Design structures and pressure vessels, perform proof tests, and support laser, pulsed-power, vacuum-vessel, and ancillary mechanical systems.
  • Support procurement, assembly, integration, operation, manufacturing, and first-time engineering builds for prototype laser amplifiers and optical conditioning equipment.
  • Select sensors and instruments and coordinate their integration with the controls team.
  • Plan and conduct tests, review test data, and contribute to work instructions, test plans, specifications, and system documentation.
  • Support design reviews, project schedules, budgets, technical reporting, supplier selection, and improvements to engineering processes and operating costs.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Nuclear, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of mechanical engineering experience focused on industrial equipment design.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; NX is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and experience taking designs through build and qualification.
  • Strong hands-on problem-solving, troubleshooting, testing, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident with a current Green Card, or lawfully admitted to the United States as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice to have

  • Experience in semiconductor, solar, R&D, nuclear, fusion energy, laser, or defense industries.
  • Interdisciplinary engineering experience.
  • Startup experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment in an on-site engineering environment.
  • Work alongside mechanical, systems, laser, optical, controls, manufacturing, and technician teams.
  • Contribute to hardware development across the product lifecycle, from early prototypes to a power-producing inertial fusion reactor.
