  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, assembly, alignment, installation, and commissioning of equipment.
  • Diagnose breakdowns, intermittent faults, and undocumented failures across mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, motion, vacuum, and thermal systems.
  • Support factory and site acceptance testing, installation checks, and the commissioning of new cells and production lines.
  • Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to distinguish machine faults from setup, material, process, or measurement issues.
  • Record failures, downtime, repairs, parts, modifications, equipment restrictions, and handover information.

Requirements

  • Technical apprenticeship or vocational qualification in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechatronics, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing production or process equipment.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills, with practical knowledge of mechanisms, pneumatics, drives, and sensors.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment manuals, and electrical or pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to use workshop tools and measuring equipment to strip, rebuild, align, and inspect machine components accurately.
  • Working English is required for technical instructions, work records, and communication with technicians, engineers, and suppliers.

Nice to have

  • Experience with reel-to-reel machinery, tension control, precision motion, or cable and conductor handling.
  • Experience with PLC systems, including Beckhoff/TwinCAT or comparable controls.
  • Experience commissioning custom machinery, production cells, or production lines, including factory or site acceptance testing.
  • Experience with hydraulic, vacuum, cryogenic, or high-voltage equipment, or an electrical qualification such as Elektrofachkraft.
  • German language skills and experience with CMMS or preventive-maintenance programmes.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on complex engineering challenges supporting safe, clean fusion energy.
  • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, controls, and operations.
  • Join a growing team working across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford.
  • Contribute hands-on to the development of Alpha, a first-of-a-kind stellarator fusion machine.

Hiring process

  • Recruiter interview lasting 30–60 minutes.
  • Technical screening lasting 30 minutes, followed by a technical panel with three 60-minute interviews.
  • CEO call lasting 30 minutes.
