TL;DR
Sr. IP Counsel, Leica Biosystems (Medical Diagnostics) (Patent and Trademark Law): Advising R&D, business, and legal teams on patent prosecution, trademark portfolio management, product exclusivity, and freedom-to-operate analysis with an accent on complex medical diagnostics and technology portfolios. Focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications, evaluating infringement and validity, managing open-source software compliance, and protecting competitive IP positions.

Location: Remote from the United States; role associated with Austin, Texas

Annual salary: $220,000–$250,000 USD, plus bonus or incentive pay

What you will do

  • Integrate with R&D teams to understand technologies and products and identify intellectual property opportunities.
  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications and provide counseling on patent matters.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate studies, including infringement and validity analysis.
  • Monitor third-party patent activity and assess competitive intellectual property positioning.
  • Manage open-source software selection, license reviews, integration, and security compliance.
  • Manage the trademark portfolio, including filing strategy, prosecution, renewals, and enforcement with outside counsel.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • At least 8 years of intellectual property legal experience, including complex patent prosecution and IP-related agreements.
  • Experience in both law firm and in-house environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field.

  • Relevant coursework or experience in medical diagnostics or life sciences.
