Senior Technical Specialist, Mechanical (Critical Infrastructure): Leading the planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and governance of mechanical, electrical, fire, hydraulic, and BMS infrastructure across telecommunications facilities with an accent on safety, compliance, resilience, and service continuity. Focus on delivering complex projects in live operational environments, managing CAPEX programmes, and coordinating contractors, consultants, vendors, and technical stakeholders.
Location: Macquarie Park, VIC, Australia; hybrid arrangement with three days in the office and two days remote or from home

What you will do
- Lead planning, design, procurement, construction delivery, commissioning, and governance for mechanical, electrical, fire, hydraulic, structural, and BMS infrastructure.
- Identify infrastructure constraints, risks, capacity limitations, and asset lifecycle requirements across technical facilities.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, risk assessments, business cases, technical specifications, tender documents, and delivery strategies.
- Manage CAPEX programmes typically ranging from $2 million to $10 million, including budgets, forecasting, expenditure, and financial reporting.
- Govern contractors, consultants, and vendors through construction, inspections, audits, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and operational handover.
- Protect continuity of critical telecommunications services while ensuring compliance with safety, construction, regulatory, and operational requirements.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 10–15 years of experience delivering critical facility infrastructure projects, preferably in data centres, telecommunications, mission-critical environments, or major infrastructure.
- Experience with construction delivery, project management, contractor governance, and complex live operational environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, fire protection, BMS and controls, and critical facility infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards, the Building Code of Australia, and WHS legislation, with a focus on compliance, safety, and operational resilience.
- Experience with CAPEX programmes, procurement, budgets, cost estimates, cashflow forecasts, business cases, and tender documentation.
Nice to have
- Experience with telecommunications infrastructure, data centre design and operations, critical power systems, DC infrastructure, national capital works programmes, or asset lifecycle planning.
- Project Management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent.
